Holidays, Distracted Drivers And Motor Vehicle Accidents

The holiday season is a busy time for most everyone in Maryland. When it involves additional driving, the chances of being involved in motor vehicle accidents increase. It is easier to become distracted when behind the wheel as one’s mind is more likely to wander while contemplating the added work and social obligations of the season.

A 31-year-old man was driving north on Littlestown Pike recently. His car, a sedan, veered into the southbound lane and struck an SUV that was heading south. The sedan hit two additional vehicles before coming to a stop.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were transported to Carroll Hospital Center where they were treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A fourth person, the driver of a second SUV, was airlifted to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Her condition is not known. It is not believed that speed or alcohol contributed to the crash, but the accident remains under investigation.

Operating a motor vehicle requires focus and attention. During the holiday season it is easy for attention to wander, and — too often — motor vehicle accidents ensue. Suffering serious injury in an accident, or losing a loved one in a crash, is a devastating experience to endure at any time, but can be especially painful at the holidays. No one can turn back time and undo the tragedy, but a lawsuit in a Maryland civil court against the party or parties deemed responsible could provide compensation for medical costs, final costs and other verifiable losses.
